Description

Our Free-Standing Access Stair System provides a safe, reliable, and flexible access solution for the aviation maintenance industry. Designed for aircraft maintenance environments, the system helps engineers and technicians safely access and exit elevated work areas while working on aircraft of varying sizes and heights.

Ideal for use as part of an overhead fall protection and aircraft access solution, the free-standing stair system improves workplace safety, reduces fall risks, and provides secure access for inspection, maintenance, repair, and servicing tasks. Its adaptable design makes it suitable for hangars, MRO facilities, aircraft workshops, and other aviation maintenance applications where safe access and egress are essential.

Features

Compliance with AS/NZS Fall Protection Standards

The GI Free-Standing Aircraft Access Stair System is designed to comply with the relevant sections of applicable fall protection standards and specifications, including:

  • AS/NZS 1891.3 – Industrial Fall-Arrest Systems and Devices – Fall-Arrest Devices
  • AS/NZS 1891.4 – Industrial Fall-Arrest Systems and Devices – Selection, Use and Maintenance
  • AS/NZS 5532:2013 – Manufacturing Requirements for Single-Point Anchor Device Used for Harness-Based Work at Height

Key Features

  • Safe Access for Two Users: Provides up to two users with a portable and secure means of accessing multiple aircraft types via a full stairway system, while providing overhead fall protection from ground level through to the elevated work area.
  • Adjustable Outriggers for Stability: Retractable outriggers increase the base footprint to provide enhanced stability and levelling during operation. When not in use, the outriggers retract into the stair base to create a compact and highly mobile unit for towing and transportation.
  • Chemical-Resistant Construction: Components are designed to withstand exposure to Skydrol and other aggressive chemical agents commonly encountered in aviation and aircraft maintenance environments.
  • High-Visibility Safety Markings: Equipped with high-visibility day and night reflective tape in accordance with applicable IATA Airport Handling Manual (AHM) Basic Safety Requirements, helping improve visibility within busy airport and hangar environments.
  • Self-Supporting, Counterweighted Design: The system is counterweighted and free-standing, eliminating the need to use the aircraft body as a structural support or foundation.
  • Easy Site Manoeuvrability: Designed for convenient movement around hangars, airports and MRO facilities using a tug or similar towing vehicle. It can also be positioned close to the aircraft by two operators.
  • Controlled Fall Distance: When used in conjunction with an approved inertia reel, the system is designed to limit the worker’s maximum free-fall distance to 600 mm.
  • Suitable for Multiple Aircraft Types: The adaptable free-standing design makes it suitable for maintenance, inspection and servicing activities across aircraft with varying heights and configurations.
